Former Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga dies at 80

Wayne Huizenga, who once owned the Miami Dolphins and brought two other pro sports to South Florida has died.

Was also named to the All-American team 2004…Was ranked among the top 200 football players his state and earned first-team allcounty honors as a sophomore…As a freshman on the track team, he was a member of the 4×100 relay team which won the state title…Also earned first team all-county honors as eighth grader and freshman for Fort Meade High School as a baseball player…One of the brightest spots about this lousy was’s durability and availability through nine. He got mostly checkdown patterns this game and never got open downfield. While he has a questionable background, his aptitude is replaced by pressure, and efficient aggression.

Everybody around the hockey world was pretty impressed with what Auston Matthews did.Box 405, Frackville, PA infinitely better than and his agent is gonna to it that someone pays his client what he’s worth whether it’s or elsewhere.ditto and Hart..they make Thomlinson look athletic as a guard Brown put up solid sparq numbers…better then Thomlinson or or obviously the st trio..

The 23-year-old Worley is a Philly native who spent the first two seasons of his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers after they selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft out of West Virginia.

Carolina dealt Worley to the Eagles this offseason in a trade for veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith.

Worley started 14 games for the Panthers last season and finished his second NFL campaign with 63 tackles and a career-high two interceptions.

It was expected that Worley would be in the mix for a starting job in Philadelphia along with fellow corners Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones.

The Bills paying AJ McCarron backup-type money and trading into this spot while also holding the No. 22 overall pick suggests they are making a strong play for franchise quarterback early, either by trading up again or staying put. Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott from their days in Carolina should be well aware of how far a defense, a running game and a dual-threat QB can take a team. Mayfield has the “it” factor to finally give Buffalo a long-term solution.seahawks_035

Will Giants pass on a quarterback?

The most recent reporting regarding the Giants’ plan for the second overall pick was simple: Quarterback Sam Darnold if he’s there; otherwise, running back Saquon Barkley or defensive end Bradley Chubb.

The Ravens will be thinking about wide receiver and offensive line with this pick, but like the Packers, they could use some rebooting in their 3-4 with Wink Martindale taking over the scheme and Terrell Suggs turning 36 in October. Davenport can turn into a Suggs-like dynamo while learning from the veteran in a situational role at first.

The Chargers are nasty on the edges with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, but they could use more explosiveness inside to round out what has the makings of an elite defense in 2018. Payne has Bosa-like short-area speed and can add to opponents’ backfield nightmares.

There are some things football fans already know about teams’ schedules for next season. First off, every team will obviously play its conference rivals twice a year.

Secondly, the annual inter-conference battles between entire divisions have already been decided: AFC East vs. NFC North, AFC North vs. NFC South, AFC South vs. NFC East and AFC West vs. NFC West.

Several of those same owners haven’t even been reluctant or reticent about their abject refusal to budge over players protesting during the national anthem. Not even a full day after Kraft’s Meek Mill visit and his praise of the players’ advocacy came the news of the Bengals’ attempt to strong-arm free agent Eric Reid into backing down from kneeling during the anthem.

Which, again, follows the unambiguous statements from Bob McNair and Stephen Ross earlier in the offseason, not to mention the reported debates at the recent owners meetings between those who wanted strict prohibitions on protesting and those who did not.seahawks_090

Matt Ryan relieved wife, newborn twins OK after difficult pregnancy

Matt Ryan is a dad, but it wasn’t an easy process.

The Falcons quarterback announced in November that he and his wife, Sarah, were expecting twins. Sarah provided an update Monday on Instagram, saying she was placed on hospital bed rest Jan. 9 due to pregnancy complications, which explains Matt’s absence at practice that day because of a “personal matter.”

Gone from the reigning AFC champions are notable names like cornerback Malcolm Butler, left tackle Nate Solder, right tackle Cameron Fleming, running back Dion Lewis and wide receivers Danny Amendola and Brandin Cooks. The notable arrivals so far include cornerback Jason McCourty, wide receivers Jordan Matthews and Cordarrelle Patterson and defensive linemen Danny Shelton and Adrian Clayborn.

After one blockbuster trade last season (Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers) and a the surprise move this offseason (Cooks to the Rams), the Patriots are up to eight draft selections later this month, with half of them coming in the first two rounds.

With Tom Brady and Bill Belichick still around, New England maintains its status as a strong Super Bowl contender for 2018, even with the big veteran changes. But the team is also in semi-rebuild mode as it prepares for near-future life without Brady. It also has pressing needs at other key positions, especially for the now Matt Patricia-less defense.

Rodgers is in India with girlfriend Danica Patrick on behalf of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which gives hearing aids to those who can’t afford them nor have access to them.

The Browns have their pick among potential first-round quarterbacks and Darnold remains the best match ahead of Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson. From there, Cleveland fills a need in the secondary with Ward, the best cornerback in the draft. Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick and N.C. State’s Bradley Chubb are other possibilities.

The Browns probably won’t do it, but we’re sticking with what we’ve said all along — Cleveland should draft Penn State’s Saquon Barkley. He’s the best player on the board and he gives the Browns a playmaker who could elevate the offense like running backs Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette have done for their teams in recent seasons. Of the top five players on the board, Barkley is the least-likely bust candidate.seahawks_124

Raiders’ Bruce Irvin stokes Marquette King feud with veiled threat

Shortly after the Raiders parted ways with Marquette King, the punter signed with the archrival Broncos, but one former teammate is already looking forward to facing King on the field.

In a Twitter exchange, Raiders linebacker Bruce Irvin shared that he asked for permission to play on Oakland’s punt return team when the Raiders and Denver play this season, which would put the two on the field against each other.

Now they’re off the hook with a second notorious kneeler. They can claim they never did anything that fit the legal definition of “collusion,” in case the topic ever comes up. They can say, hey, someone gave Reid a chance.

So what if the team wasn’t as sold on Reid’s character as it is on the guy who knocked a woman unconscious on video, or the guy who yelled at an officer while being arrested, “I hope you die tomorrow,” or the guy who’s been fined nearly $82,000 for on-field violations in his career against one team alone?

Reid got the message. So did every other player who ever did or ever might think about protesting. And it was Mike Brown and the Bengals who sent it. Go figure.

“Betting on sports may become widely legal, but we cannot allow those who have lobbied hardest for sports gambling to be the only ones controlling how it would be ushered into our busineses,” the statement read in part. “The athletes must also have a seat at the table to ensure that players’ rights and the integrity of our games are protected.”

Per ESPN’s Sports Betting Bill Tracker as of April 1, lawmakers in almost 20 states from New York to California have crafted, are crafting or have passed legislation, wagering that sports gambling could become legal by summer and help the states’ cash-strapped budgets.

The PGA Tour this week said that it has collaborated with the NBA and Major League Baseball to align lobbying efforts on the state and federal levels for legislation it supports, USA Today reported.seahawks_016

Family obligation will keep Ziggy Ansah from Lions’ workouts

Allen Park — The Lions will kick off the voluntary portion of the offseason today, when players report to the team’s practice facility for Phase One of the program. It will be the first time coach Matt Patricia, who was hired by the franchise in February, will meet many of his players face-to-face.

Football-specific drills will have to wait. Patricia and the coaching staff are prohibited from working with the players on the field during Phase One, but he’ll have the opportunity to get in front of the group for the first time and lay out his vision for the future.

Detroit placed the franchise tag on Ansah this offseason and he has yet to sign the one-year contract that would pay him more than $17.14 million next year. The team has been given no indication he won’t sign later this offseason.

“I hope he does,” general manager Bob Quinn said at the league meetings. “He never gave us any inclination that he wasn’t going to when we talked to him.”

Bradford appeared in just two games for the Minnesota Vikings last season and had his knee scoped in November before being placed on injured reserve.

Following Carson Palmer’s retirement, the Cardinals signed Bradford to a two-year deal worth up to $40 million in March. They finished 22nd in total yards per game (314.1) and 25th in points per game (18.4) last season.

Dating back to his college days at Oklahoma, Bradford has struggled to stay on the field. He played in just three games as a junior in 2009 because of a shoulder injury.

Since being selected No. 1 overall by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2010, Bradford has only played a full 16-game schedule twice in eight seasons. The 30-year-old led the NFL with a 71.6 completion percentage and threw for a career-high 3,877 yards in 15 games during the 2016 season.  la_kings_052
